Rumor: Verizon to launch Droid RAZR Ultra and RAZR M Ultra from Motorola

Just a little while ago, we saw a leaked shot of an Android smartphone by Motorola, which is probably the Motorola X Phone, but still it is not 100% confirmed. Now @evleaks on Twitter tweeted that “Coming to Verizon: Droid RAZR Ultra, RAZR M Ultra, from Motorola“. This is the first time we have heard about these new Droids, and @evleaks is one of the most legit sources around. They have made such rumored statements in past as well, and they turned out to be true.

UntitledMaybe, the Droid RAZR Ultra is the name of Motorola X for Verizon Wireless, but of course I can be wrong as well. Anyway, that’s what we have for now. Tell us what do you think about it in the comment box below.

Rumored Motorola DVX created for emerging markets

Google-Motorola-Merger-ApprovedAccording to recent rumors, Google and Motorola may have a brand new device in the works. The mystery device has been code-named the DVX, which is slated to follow the Moto X and be an extremely cheap device aimed at emerging markets. This means no Snapdragon 800 CPU with a 4k screen, however don’t let that fool you. If all goes as planned, the DVX could be what is missing in such a tech-savvy world.

Sources for Phone Arena don’t have a lot of information about the DVX quite yet, but they say that it is planned for release later this year, and would be ultra low-cost option for those in the world who don’t have (or can’t afford) smartphones that are currently on the market. In all honesty this really is a smart move for Google. The more people that have smartphones and internet access, the more people are going to bring in money through Google’s ad services. In all honesty, it’s a win-win situation.

This is all we know for now. As soon as we receive any more info on the rumored DVX we will be sure to update you.

BlueStacks announces the GamePop Mini, a ‘Netflix for games’ service

Lately it seems that the inexpensive gaming console market has been growing at quite the rapid rate. Ouya, Project Mojo, GameStick, and Google are just a few companies developing Android-powered game consoles with the hopes of gaining your attention. As of this morning, we can now add BlueStacks to the ranks as they announced their newest console, the GamePop Mini.

gamepop mini image

The GamePop Mini is described as a console that’s bout the size of a pack of bubble gum, and free for users who commit to a 1-year subscription to its online gaming service — which is also called GamePop. When The Verge talked to BlueStacks’ CEO Rosen Sharma, they received a pretty simple answer to why the console is free: “We’ve said it before, but we’re working really hard to build a Netflix for games. We can’t do that if we don’t get subscribers. And we think people will be more inclined to give us a shot if they don’t have to pay for the console itself.”

The GamePop Mini will run both iOS and Android games, however official ship dates have not been released quite yet.  Details on hardware and other key factors are still a mystery, but we expect to hear more in the near future. So far all we know for sure is that the GamePop Mini will be available for pre-order beginning Monday, July 1st.

Secure messaging to come to CyanogenMod?

Koushik Dutta recently shared of Google+ the possibility of a secure push messaging service which will encrypt messages sent between CyanogenMod users from end-to-end. Design inspired by iMessaging and ignited by recent security concerns. If the quote I’m about to paste isn’t good enough, check out the original post here

Secure/push messages in +CyanogenMod

We’ve been focusing on data security lately; +Steve Kondik got the ball rolling with Privacy Guard. And obviously, recent events have made privacy concerns a global discussion.

The Privacy Guard contribution is the philosophy I like to  to see in these types of data security implementations: seamless protection of the user data. If it’s a pain to use, or if it breaks third party apps, it’s going to be a negative experience, and we’re doing it wrong.

One of the interesting developments of the past couple weeks is that iMessage, is not snoopable by a third party, not even Apple (or so they would have you believe ;) .

Regardless of whether that is true; I love the design philosophy of iMessage: it works transparently, and encrypts the user’s message between iOS users and fails over to SMS as needed. Frictionless.

I’d thrown a poll out there, to see what sort of cohesiveness +CyanogenMod  users have. Surprisingly high. Many +CyanogenMod  text a lot with other+CyanogenMod users.
https://www.evernote.com/shard/s63/sh/94c9d731-6540-430e-b401-c212f14428d7/fae4c3c7a114a957547a2d77c19e3323
(Which makes sense, as our growth to 7M users is entirely organic and word of mouth)

Anyways, TL;DR. I’ve built out a secure/push based messaging plugin for CyanogenMod. Messages between two CyanogenMod will be encrypted end to end and sent over GCM. It’s built into the framework; so it works transparently, even with third party apps. (This is actually one of the cooler points IMO, and I do a lot of testing with GoSMS, etc)

It’s basically PGP (encryption + authenticity) for text messages, built into the system.

There are two minor changes to the telephony and framework to support this:

Add Middleware hooks to IccSmsInterfaceManagerProxy. This allows a sent SMS message to be intercepted and rewritten or sent over another transport.
http://review.cyanogenmod.org/44464

Add other various framework support bits (new permissions). Grant system apps priority in case of ordered broadcast priority tie.
http://review.cyanogenmod.org/44545

Here’s the source for the app/plugin, which is still under heavy development.
https://github.com/koush/PushSms

At this point, I’m looking to get some feedback, discussion, thoughts, etc on this project. Not ready for active testing yet.

I, for one, am very excited to see this come to fruition.

Motorola, now Holo-themed!

It looks as though Google is making some much needed changes to the Motorola logo, bringing their Holo colors to surround the Original “M” symbol and updating the font and case of the company name. The now all lower-case will be followed by the new tag-line “a Google company.”

I’m not a huge fan of Motorola hardware, but this new logo is attractive and I hope that it’s indicative of a revamped design style for their hardware.

What do you guys think? Could this be in preparation for the release of the fabled XFON?

Samsung Galaxy S4 Developer Edition available for Verizon at $649

Back in May, we told you that developer edition of the Samsung Galaxy S4 is headed towards AT&T and Verizon, and we might see it soon. And guess who won the race? Samsung officially unveiled the developer edition of the famous smartphone for Verizon, and it is available for $649 directly through Samsung’s online store. Everything under the hood is just like the original version, it just comes with unlocked bootloader and no bloatware.

GS4_Verizon_Black_400x400_large1_clSamsung has a special love for developers, hence a special device just for the developers. Carriers probably have something against no bloatware and a fully unlocked bootloader, like the AT&T and Verizon Galaxy S4 can be unlocked and turned into a developer phone, but the carriers just don’t approve it. Although, there’s a way to do it, and that is hacking, but that is dangerous and will definitely void your warranty. We are not encouraging you to do it, only just telling you about the options. So if you are not a hacking type person yet looking forward to a developer edition of Galaxy S4, then here it is!

Are you planning to grab the Galaxy S4 Developer Edition, or is it just too heavy on the pocket? Tell us about it in the comment box below.

LG G2 leaked with Snapdragon 800 processor

LG recently confirmed that Snapdragon 800 will hit the next-gen ‘G’ series smartphone, and I guess the phone LG was talking about is the LG G2. Once again, @evleaks got their hands on shots of the G2, and thanks to them, we can now see several shots of the LG G2.

LG_G2_Leak1Well, it seems like it has a really thin bezel, and on the bottom, its either a home button or a LG logo; though more looks like a logo. Whats interesting here is the back of the phone. If you look at the camera bump closely, under the camera sensor, there’s a visible ‘plus’ button, then something ‘unidentified’ and then a ‘minus’ button. Well, people are saying that it is the volume rocker, and that’s really an odd place to put one though. So, by giving it the benefit of doubt, maybe LG is bringing in something entirely different and new.

Anyway, I guess we might see an amazing smartphone from LG soon, a device good enough to go head-to-head with Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One. Share your thoughts with us in the comment box below.

Sony announces the Xperia Z Ultra, a 6.4 inch powerful smartphone

xperiazuWe heard on June 7 that Sony will officially release the Sony Xperia ZU on June 25, and who knew the rumor would be true. Today, Sony officially released the Sony Xperia Z Ultra at the Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai. The device features a huge 6.4? Full HD display, and it will go head-to-head with the Samsung Galaxy Note series, which I mentioned earlier that it is dominating the phablet market. And as we told you before, the device is running on the latest version of Android known as the Android 4.2. Have a look on some of the main features of it:

6.4” Full HD TRILUMINOS™ Display for mobile powered by X-Reality™ for mobile engine for the ultimate big screen entertainment experienceUltra slim, waterproof** and dust-resistant (IP55/IP58) durable designQualcomm® Snapdragon™ 800 processor with 2.2 GHz quad-core CPUs and 4G LTE for fast performanceWrite and sketch with any pencil and selected stylus or penFull accessory ecosystem for premium entertainment and one-touch connectivityBattery STAMINA Mode for outstanding battery life

Xperia Z Ultra featuredSony is calling it the ”world’s slimmest and largest full HD smartphone.” It is just 6.5 mm thick, which makes it the ‘largest’ full HD smartphone. Also it features a 8-megapixel camera with a front facing camera, a 3,000 mAh battery and 16 GB of internal memory with SD card support as well. So in a way, this device is close to perfect. Sony is planning to launch it in the third quarter, which is actually starting from next month. Price is unknown at the moment.

So are you planning to grab one or you are more on the Galaxy Note 2 side? Tell us about it in the comment box below.

Flash Android 4.3 on the Samsung Galaxy S4 [GT-I9505]

samsung_galaxy_s4_gt_i9505_android_43_wmk

So now that you know there’s a working version of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out there, the next thing you want to know is how to flash it on your Samsung Galaxy S4. Great news! You can, and it’s not all that difficult. The not great news? It’s only working on the standard GT-I9505 (with Snapdragon CPU) and Google Edition Samsung Galaxy S4. In fact, this is actually ported from the latter device.

samsung_galaxy_s4_gt_i9505_android_43_wmk

The guys over at SamMobile have detailed the process which is rather simple, especially for those who are familiar with flashing ROMs on devices. Keep in mind, however, that doing things like this will void your warranty and that you may run into issues. If you’re not keen on messing with that brand new Samsung Galaxy S4 then just leave it alone for now.

Again, this is not the U.S. models we’re talking about here; only the I9505 model works so far.

System details:
Android version: 4.3
Build ID: JWR66N
PDA: I9505GUEUBMFP
CSC: I9505GXARBMFP
Build Date: 26 June 2013
Changelist: 968842

Neither Google nor Samsung has yet to say anything official about Android 4.3 so it’s still considered an unannounced build. With that in mind, it won’t be long before it begins rolling out to Nexus models and other Google Edition phones. That is… hopefully.

To get the complete walkthrough, head to SamMobile!

Volume problem with XGO.

Default Volume problem with XGO. I just wanted to ask if there's any way to control media volume on my xperia go, when I'm playing a game or listening to music I use volume keys but always change only the ringtone volume and not media, which is really annoying. Also I see HD gaming is very slow on xperia go. I really miss my live with walkman, even when it was a 2011 phone this xperia go has been really disappointing for me. I've always bought Sony phones but I'm really disappointing now with them. This is a 2012 phone and is really below my live with walkman, even it is a 2011 phone.
